Each species has its own scoring algorithm that weighs real-time weather conditions differently. Inputs include barometric pressure and pressure trend, wind speed, cloud cover, moon phase, precipitation, and time of day. Because bass respond differently to conditions than walleye do, every species has a unique set of weights tuned to its known behavior patterns.

Scores are calculated fresh each time you open the app and updated automatically when conditions change. The score reflects feeding activity likelihood — not a catch guarantee.

Tier Score What it means
Prime 80–100 Conditions are highly favorable. Peak feeding activity likely.
Good 60–79 Solid conditions. Fish are active and catchable.
Fair 40–59 Mixed conditions. Fish may be present but less active.
Poor 0–39 Unfavorable conditions. Slow bite likely.

Bite Index uses your device's GPS to fetch conditions for your current location. If your location looks wrong, check the following:

  • Open your device Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and confirm Bite Index is set to While Using the App or Always
  • If location permission was recently denied, the app may be showing your last known location — this is indicated by a banner at the top of the screen
  • If you previously searched a different location, tap Return to my location in the header to switch back to GPS

Conditions are fetched fresh each time you open the app. Scores are recalculated in real time based on current weather data for your location. There is no manual refresh button — simply close and reopen the app to get the latest conditions.

Yes. Tap the search icon in the top right of the dashboard and enter any city name or zip code. Bite Index will fetch current conditions for that location for your session.

When you close the app and reopen it, it will automatically return to your current GPS location. Searched locations are not saved between sessions.
